Virgin River fans think the next season might feature another paternity twist as many believe Denny isn't the father of Lizzie's baby

Virgin River fans are always thinking of new theories for the up and coming season and the latest one surrounds Lizzie's pregnancy - with fans convinced Denny is not the father.

The Netflix series, which follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) as she builds a new life in the close-knit town of Virgin River, has kept viewers hooked across six seasons with its dramatic storylines and complex characters.

But now, with Lizzie expecting a baby, many fans are questioning if Denny is truly the father.

When Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) reveals her pregnancy, she and her boyfriend Denny (Kai Bradbury) are faced with an extremely difficult decision, due to Denny's Huntington's disease diagnosis.

This genetic condition carries a 50% chance of being passed on to their child, leading to intense scenes where the couple debates whether to test their unborn baby.

Despite the medical expertise surrounding them with Denny's grandad Doc (Tim Matheson) and their close friend Mel, they surprisingly choose not to proceed with testing their child before birth, leaving the future uncertain.

However, some viewers believe the mystery might run deeper, as they believe the theory that Denny might not be the father at all, and that the real father could be Lizzie's former boyfriend Ricky.

Ricky left Virgin River in season four to join the Marines, and only returned briefly in season six, as the former couple met and Ricky congratulated Lizzie on her pregnancy.

But their reunion only led fans to believe the pair had unfinished business - despite her being pregnant and in another relationship.

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the theory, as one fan pointed out the suspicious timing of Lizzie's pregnancy, writing: "Anyone else get that sense that the baby isn’t Dennys? they made that huge scene when figuring out if they should test the baby for Huntington's disease..."

Despite the show having previously explored surprise paternity with Charmaine and Jack, one viewer argued that they might still do this with Denny and Lizzie.

The viewer stated: "Virgin River does repeat things, and the writing isn’t that great in general. So I definitely could see them doing a Ricky paternity storyline."

One fan admitted: "I wouldn’t be shocked if the baby is Ricky’s, which I’d like because I prefer Lizzie and Ricky."

While another viewer humorously commented on Lizzie and Denny's chemistry on-screen stating that they "leave the room when these two are on the screen".

But the theory might not be far off, following the storyline from Robyn Carr's book, which the series is based on.

In the seventh book, Paradise Valley, Ricky and Lizzie have a teenage romance that results in pregnancy, although tragically Lizzie suffers a stillbirth.

Although the TV series differs greatly from the books and has altered the characters, Lizzie and Ricky still share their romantic connection on the show. Which adds speculation that the series might eventually return to the novels' storyline - potentially offering viewers another paternity plotline involving Lizzie, Denny and Ricky.
